PAINTED HOUSE AND GARDEN (2002)
by Robyn Douglas
Oil on Canvas 1202mm x 920mm
This is a view through the bedroom window. The large Gunnera plants grow around the pond and the view of the house and pond at night echoes the surrealist paintings of Magritte with his use of the ambiguity of the scene through the window and the time of day. The gumboots are of course a gardener’s trademark. This painting won the Still Life section at the Whakatane Art Awards 2003. The judge was Michael Smither.
