This painting is of my office door, with my lab coat hanging on its hook and the umbrella ready. The view through the door is of Lake St Bathan’s in Central Otago and beyond the lake are some ancient ruins in Turkey. The theme is about the freedom envisaged in retirement, but with the barbed wire symbolising the difficulty in giving up security and independence.
